Global supply chain leader scales lighting and HVAC upgrades across 26 sites

A Fortune 500 distribution and logistics company with 500+ facilities set a public target: reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 30% by 2030. Leadership identified LED lighting and HVAC modernization as high-impact first steps toward that goal. But CapEx budgets were tied to other business priorities, and the upgrades had to begin immediately to meet the 2030 goal. The company needed a way to accelerate modernization without competing for capital.

After working together on another customer project, the company and Redaptive recognized an opportunity to accelerate upgrades without touching CapEx, and the two teams began building a phased infrastructure modernization program. The program shifted upgrades to each site’s OpEx budget through Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) financing, freeing capital for other business priorities. The program launched with LED lighting modernization across 22 sites, then expanded into HVAC, including heat pump electrification at sites where sustainability targets and economic criteria aligned.

The company is now advancing its 30% Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction targets—all without CapEx or new debt. LED retrofits delivered immediate energy savings, while HVAC electrification cut emissions at priority sites without requiring new capital approvals. Metering integrated into the newly installed HVAC systems provides verified performance data that accelerates approvals for each new phase and opens the door for future sustainability upgrades, including solar.
